The Iowa OSHA Consultation Program offers small – and medium-sized businesses top priority to use this no cost consultation service. The OSHA consultants can help employers reduce their injury and illness rates and help lower the workers’ compensation rates by assisting employers improve their safety and health management system. Most importantly though, Consultation can help employers protect their most valuable asset: their workforce. Because Consultation is voluntary, the employer must complete a “Request a Consultation Visit” form. You may request this form by calling 515-725-2520 or by visiting Consultation’s website: https://dial.iowa.gov/iosha/consultation. Iowa OSHA would encourage a complete review of the employer’s worksite; however, you may request any of the following:
- On-site Safety and health audits
- Workplace air and noise monitoring
- Health and safety program review and assistance
- Assessments of health and safety management practices
- Health and safety training and education
- Technical guidance and information
Consultation visits are made available at no cost through federal and state funding. The services are not only free, but they are also confidential. A written report outlining any hazards found is issued after an on-site consultation visit. The obligation to the employer is to correct the identified hazards. There are no citations or penalties involved. Government entities, such as cities, counties, and state agencies, are covered under the Public Sector Consultation program.
