Important Update on CIRAS Funding

I’m writing to you today to provide you with an important update that impacts how CIRAS serves the industry across Iowa.

Last week, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) notified CIRAS that it was stopping support for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program effective immediately because it is no longer aligned with the priorities of the administration. This change is not limited to CIRAS; 10 other states with annual renewals of April 1 received the same letter.

The MEP is the largest federal funding source at CIRAS, and this unexpected cut impacts the availability and affordability of our services in both the near and long term.

We are fortunate to have outstanding support from the State of Iowa and Iowa State University, along with other federal funding sources. Because of this support and our spectacular team, we expect to fulfill all our commitments and retain our staff.

CIRAS’ mission is to enhance the performance of industry through applied research, education, technical assistance, and collaboration. We remain committed to this mission and to your success.

In the coming weeks, we’ll continue to look for opportunities to restore MEP funding and redefine our business model. Even more important, we’ll continue to provide you with expert advice and an outsider perspective as you face your toughest challenges.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. We will continue to update you as we learn more about this situation.
