Q: Tell me about your job and how it contributes to the overall goals of CIRAS to help companies prosper.
I’m part of the CIRAS Engineering team, with a focus on Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE). I help companies understand and apply NDE techniques and technologies to address their challenges—whether through direct testing, demonstrations, or by connecting them with equipment or service providers. My broad background also allows me to provide insights into processes such as steelmaking, machining, and fluid management.

Q: What skills or experiences have prepared you for this job?
I earned a B.S. in Materials Engineering from Iowa State University and have worked in engineering and operations roles across several industries, including medical devices, specialty steelmaking, and agricultural and construction equipment. These experiences gave me hands-on knowledge of metallurgy, failure analysis, quality systems, chemical processes, and various NDE techniques.

Q: What types of companies do you work with?
I primarily work with manufacturers that are either solving an immediate issue or seeking to improve a process for long-term reliability.

Q: What opportunities for advancement are available for companies by working with CIRAS?
CIRAS provides an objective, third-party perspective grounded in experience. Our connection to Iowa State University allows us to offer access to faculty and tailored research opportunities when highly specific expertise is needed.

Q: How do you stay updated on the latest developments or trends in manufacturing or government contracting?
I stay current through professional societies such as the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), and I use LinkedIn to follow smaller, emerging trends and industry updates.

Q: What is the best part of your job?
The variety. Every day brings different questions and challenges, which keeps the work interesting and intellectually rewarding.
