Edward Fitzsimons joins CIRAS as a Digital Lab Engineer.
Edward Fitzsimons brings a unique combination of military precision, technical expertise, and hands-on industry experience to his new role at the CIRAS Digital Manufacturing Lab, powered by Alliant Energy.
Edward served for five years in the United States Marine Corps as a C-130 aircraft engine mechanic, where he managed service on 14 aircraft, led team operations, and supported both daily and mission-critical fleet demands. Following his military service, he worked as a Calibrator Level 3 at Collins Aerospace, where he specialized in data collection, fuel nozzle troubleshooting, and employee training.
While pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology at Iowa State University, Edward also worked as a student employee and intern for CIRAS, gaining valuable experience in the Digital Manufacturing Lab.
In his new position, Edward will support CIRAS project managers and clients by providing equipment maintenance and project execution services—leveraging his Marine Corps background and technical skills to enhance lab operations and ensure high-quality client support.
Edward began serving CIRAS in 2025 and is passionate about helping Iowa manufacturers advance with Industry 4.0 technologies.
