Q: Tell me about your job and how it contributes to the overall goals of CIRAS to help companies prosper.

In my role as a Manufacturing Research Strategist, I am responsible for connecting Iowa State University researchers and Iowa industry representatives in the applied research space. Applied research is where insights from basic research or existing knowledge are applied to specific practical problems being experienced today. With this applied research network comes opportunities for collaboration and potential funding sources – making it easier for Iowa companies to access the expertise Iowa State University research offers.

Q: What skills or experiences have prepared you for this job?

I have over 20 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, leading many cross-functional teams and collaborations. I love seeing the possibilities for advancement, and growth become reality.

Q: What types of companies do you work with?

I work with all types of Iowa companies interested in applied research collaborations.

Q: How do you stay updated on the latest developments or trends in manufacturing?

Iowa State University is a large place with many amazing things going on; I am constantly learning about new resources and research being done. It’s all about networking and meeting people. For industry awareness, I learn from our Strategic Advisors, review the information and opportunities provided by Manufacturing USA, and read other industry news.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is learning about the remarkable research conducted at Iowa State University, witnessing the passion in the researchers’ eyes as they discuss their work, and facilitating meaningful connections between this research and Iowa companies that can truly benefit from it.
